Hello & Welcome to Southern & Gemini!! I’m DeVonda, a southern gal from North Carolina who is fast approaching her 40’s. I’m a wife to a hardworking husband who is a wonderful dad. I’m a mother to a precious little five year-old boy & 15 year-old bonus daughter (you may say step-daughter).
As for my background, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance and worked as a Financial Analyst for 13 years until a mass company layoff in 2013, so I had to re-direct my career path. I now work full-time as a Corporate Recruiter. Beyond that, I own my own business as I’ve been a certified wedding planner for eight years and in my spare time dabble in home styling. Yep, I’ve been one busy chick, which in essence is how and why this blog was born.
I’m not a stranger to blogging as being a wedding planner & designer, having a blog on your company’s website is a very important part to marketing your business. I knew that one day I wanted to possibly create a space to blog beyond the events industry. I’m now at a point in my life about to turn 40 years old and have gotten a bit burnt out. I find that my attention is pulled more towards my son as he has now begun “Big School”, yep Kindergarten. I’m participating in PTA’s, busy taking him to this activity and that activity, we’ve just purchased our 2nd home and busy designing that, etc. While wearing all these hats, I somehow and somewhere lost me. So something had to give.
I wanted my nights and weekends back and my family much appreciated that, so I’ve taken a year and half hiatus from wedding & event planning. Shockingly I didn’t quite miss it, as it was/is a very stressful and an around-the-clock job. The work-life balance we all yearn for just seemed unattainable.
So I’ve enjoyed my time on hiatus, but I’m now needing to do something as I am a creative being. I personally enjoy reading blogs with great content, and find it quite cathartic to write/type out your thoughts and ideas. This blog is a space for me to share things I LOVE: motherhood, fashion, food, travel, DIY Projects, the events industry, home styling and everything in between. I really should just say it’s about anything that has nothing to do with my everyday life as a corporate recruiter.
xoxo, DeVonda M.
